Tamairi-rolling ejiko kokeshi doll | HAYASAKA, Masahiro | 8cm in height

This is a rolling style ejiko kokeshi doll, by Masahiro Hayasaka who is a Togatta style kokeshi craftsman.

Ejiko is one of the names for cradle in Japanese, which was used while parents were farm working in a rural area.  Because of the rolling structure, the baby can move and turn around in her cradle.
The pattern is called 'Biri kannna moyou', which carved with a wooden plane. 
Kannna means ‘wooden plane’ and moyou is ‘pattern’ in Japanese. Biri is an onomatopoeia for the sound of the plane, Biri Biri.
