This is a komori-babysitting kokeshi doll, by SATO Seiko who is a Yajiro style kokeshi craftsman. It represents a kokeshi doll piggybacking a baby.

These kokeshi doll’s necks can turn. The baby kokeshi has two expressions, which are waking up and sleeping. It is a cute wooden toy, which was made with high crafting skill.

頭がくるくる回る、弥治郎系こけし佐藤誠孝工人の子守りこけしです。赤ちゃんこけしは起きて、眠ってと豊かな表情を私達に見せてくれます。

He was born as the 9th child of Makoto SATO (1901-1970) who was a Yajiro style kokeshi craftsman. He worked as an auto mechanic and sailor after graduating high school. After his father died, he aspired to take on his father’s work then he became an apprentice of Seishi TAKAHASHI (1911-1978) who was a Yajiro style kokeshi craftsman from 1974. He started making kokeshi dolls from 1974.
He made his workshop ‘Kijidokoro Sato’ in 1975. His two sons and his wife are also kokeshi craftspeople.
