Kinagashi kokeshi doll | ABO, Muchihide | 15cm in height

This is an Imayo Tsugaru style kokeshi doll, named ‘Kinagashi’, by Muchihide Abo.

Kinagashi means ‘rough style of kimono’. It has a cool beauty with an elegant kimono. The flower on the body is peony, which is a characteristic of Tsugaru style kokeshi doll.

He was born in 1950 in Aomori. He had a opportunity to make kokeshi at junior high school’s club. From 1966, he started learning woodwork under the guidance of Zenji Sato who was a kokeshi craftsman. It was said that he started making kokeshi dolls from 1969. He is the master of Masafumi Abo who is his son.
