Who nibbled the sweet Kashiwa mochi?

This is a novelty Kashiwa mochi kokeshi doll, by Teruyuki HIRAGA (1972-) who is a Sakunami style kokeshi craftsman.

Kashiwa mochi is a Japanese sweet, which is filled with sweet red beans or miso-Anko and wrapped with an oak leaf.
It is said that the oak leaves won’t fall until the new leaves sprout. It was connected with continuing the family line. Because of that, Kashiwa mochi became a fortunate sweet on the Kodomo no hi, which is the day to celebrate and pray for the health and growth of children.

He was born in1972. He started learning to make kokeshi from 1987 under the guidance of his grandfather Kenjiro Hiraga and his father Kenichi Hiraga. Teruyuki is the fourth member of the Hiraga family whose work belongs the HIRAGAKOKESHI- TEN.
