This is an Momiji-Autumn leaves kokeshi doll, by KANOU Hiroshi who is a Sakunami style kokeshi craftsman.
Momiji means ‘maple’ also it is used as ‘Autumn leaves’ in general terms in Japanese.
These fluttering leaves on the kokeshi doll are reminiscent of children playing on the field with a lot of autumn leaves.

He was born in 1954. He started learning woodwork and making kokeshi dolls from 1973. His master was his father Eiji Kanou(1929-2011). He is an in-house kokeshi craftsman at Aoba castle ruins in Sendai city.
