This is a 60's vintage Ejiko kokeshi doll, which, by TAKAHASHI Chuzo (1893-1981) who was a Tsuchiyu style kokeshi craftsman.
This ejiko was made in 1969 when he was 76 years old.

Ejiko is one of the names for cradle in Japanese, which was used while parents were farm working in a rural area. Due to age, this doll has dullness.

He was born in a farming family. He worked as a farmer until he was 18 years old. He became an apprentice of WATANABE Kakuji (1877-1922) who was a kokeshi craftsman in Tsuchiyu of Fukushima. He became independent in 1919. Due to losing his wife in 1960, he moved to his daughter’s house in Tokyo. He made kokeshi dolls there until he died.
