Vintage Tsuchiyu style kokeshi doll | NOJI Tadao (1931-2012) | 古品こけし 土湯系 野地忠男工人 | 21cm in height

This is a vintage Tsuchiyu style kokeshi doll, by NOJI Tadao (1931-2012) who was a Tsuchiyu style kokeshi craftsman. This doll was made in 2006, which was 18th year of the Heisei era in Japan.

The difference between the blurred color of the body and the sharp facial expression, give an interesting contrast to this kokeshi doll. The striped pattern on the body, which is not clear, is effective to highlight the natural texture of the wood.

Due to age, this kokeshi has discoloration and spots.

土湯系こけし野地忠男工人の平成18年（2006年）に作られたこけしです。胴の滲んだ風合いとシャープな表情のコントラストが魅力的です。
経年のため色褪せやシミがあります。

He was born in Fukushima prefecture, where Tsuchiyu city is. He started learning woodwork after retiring from work in 1972 and started making kokeshi dolls from 1974. His master was Kazuo Watanabe (1940-2005) who was a Tsuchiyu style kokeshi craftsman.
