This is a pot style of Onsen-hot spring ejiko kokeshi, which was made by Yoshio OGASAWARA who is a Togatta style kokeshi craftsman in Tohoku, Japan.
Almost all kokeshi’s home towns are famous hot spring area in Japan. So kokeshi dolls must like Onsen-hot springs.
This pot and lid are not tight when fastened. Please hold the bottom of the pot if you pick it up.

“He was born in Togatta (miyagi prefecture) on January 22, 1936. In 1952, he started making wood turned products, continuing for about five years. At age 20, he began working as a craftsman in Sendai. (the central city of Miyagi) In 1965, Mr. Ogasawara apprenticed with kokeshi artisan, Eiji Asakura, and learned how to paint kokeshi, eventually making his own dolls and becoming the award winning artisan that he is today”. -from his Ogasawara kokeshi shop’s flyer.-

- Our kokeshi are made of wood, so please avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat.
- It’s high humidity season in Japan now. Kokeshi can be damaged with sudden change of humidity. Please avoid the direct air from the air conditioner.

遠刈田こけし工人小笠原義雄さんから届いた、温泉えじこです。
こけし達のふるさとは、いい温泉地でもあるので、きっとみんな温泉が大好き！
小物入れになっているこの温泉えじこですが、蓋はゆるく作られています。持ち上げる際は本体の方をお持ちになってください。

※こけしの顔や模様は水性染料で描かれているため、たいへん水に弱いです。色落ちを避けるためにも、お掃除の際は乾いた布で拭いてあげてください。
※こけし本体は木でできています。急な乾燥や直射日光、エアコンなどの暖房器具の近くを避けてお楽しみください。また、あまり湿気の多い場所ですとカビが生えることがありますのでご注意ください。
※1点1点手作業で作られています。それぞれのお顔は若干違いがあることをどうぞご了承ください。

1952年より遠刈田緑川木工所で5年間、木地修行を行う
1960年より職人として遠刈田、白石、仙台にて活動
1965年に独立後、朝倉英次の指導を受けて伝統こけしの描彩を始める
