A kokeshi has its own car. This wooden toy is called Fuku-kuruma 福車.
This fuku-kuruma was made by HOSHI, Sadayoshi (1956-2021) who was a Yajiro style kokeshi craftsman.
This kokeshi can move forward with its wheels. Fuku means ‘luck’ and kuruma is ‘car’ in Japanese.
This doll is possibly vintage. Due to age, this kokeshi has spots.

He was the second son of a woodworker. Due to the fact that his father was a forestry worker, Sadayoshi learned woodwork under the guidance of his brother Hiroaki Hoshi (1953-).
At the beginning, he made wooden toys and Shin-gata kokeshi’s wood bodies. Around 1988, he made a small number of Kametoshi style kokeshi dolls. From around 2011, after he moved to Yajiro, which is a famous kokeshi crafting area, he mainly made Dento ‘traditional’ kokeshi doll. (Kametoshi Honda(1919-1990) was a Yajiro style kokeshi craftsman who was the master of Sadayoshi’s brother Hiroaki.)

- Our kokeshi are made of wood, so please avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat. Humidity may damage the kokeshi. Please avoid excess moisture. (especially direct air from the air conditioner damages to the kokeshi dolls.)
