This is an asagao ejiko kokeshi 朝顔えじこ doll, by KAKIZAWA Yoshinobu who is a Naruko style kokeshi craftsman.

Asagao means ‘morning glory’ in Japanese.
It is a famous flower in summer. Originally, it was imported from China as a medicinal plant around the end of the 8th century. There were some asagao booms in the Edo period (1603-1868). People enjoyed breeding asagao flower. Even now, there are asagao festival in Asakusa of Tokyo. Because of that reason, we have asagao motif kokeshi dolls sometimes.

He was born in 1974. He started woodworking in 1993 and started making kokeshi dolls in 1998 under the guidance of his father Koretaka Kakizawa.
His master was his father Koretaka Kakizawa. His mother is also a kokeshi craftsman Mariko Kakizawa.

- Our kokeshi are made of wood, so please avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat. Humidity may damage the kokeshi. Please avoid excess moisture. (especially direct air from the air conditioner damages to the kokeshi dolls.)
