This is a Kingyo -goldfish patterned kokeshi doll, by HIRAGA Teruyuki who is a Sakunami style kokeshi craftsman.
The small swimming goldfish and swaying water grass give a relaxing image to this doll.
‘Kokeshi’ is a wooden doll, which have been crafted in the northern Japan for over 150 years. In the beginning, the dolls were toys for children. Nowadays, we are enjoying kokeshi as interior products. While they are classic dolls, they continue to evolve and expand in variety.

He was born in 1972. He started learning to make kokeshi from 1987 under the guidance of his grandfather Kenjiro Hiraga and his father Kenichi Hiraga. Teruyuki is the fourth member of the Hiraga family whose work belongs the Hiraga kokeshi ten.
