This unique kokeshi with wide opened eyes, was made by HONDA Hiroshi (1934-2011) who was a Nakanosawa style kokeshi craftsman in Tohoku, Japan.
This style of expression is lovingly nicknamed ‘Tako bouzu’, which had been a branch of Tsuchiyu kokeshi. In 2018, this kokeshi was authorized to become independent as Nakanosawa style.
Because of aging, the red paint around the eyes is faded, but the eyes have a strong gaze. This kokeshi lost color, but still has presence.
The small items are not included in the product.

He was born in Fukushima prefecture. His uncle was Nobuo HONDA (1918-1995) who was a Tsuchiyu style kokeshi craftsman. (Originally, Hiroshi had a different family name from Honda, he was adopted by Nobuo.)
He became an apprentice of Yoshizo IWAMOTO from 1952. He became independent in 1959. From 1963, he changed his job. He resumed making kokeshi dolls around 1970. He founded a ‘Tako bozu-no-kai’ in 1973, which is a ‘tako bozu association’ in Japanese. He worked as the director-general of it for a long time.
