This is a rabbit kokeshi doll, which was made by OGASAWARA Yoshio (1936-) who is a Togatta style kokeshi craftsman.
Can we imagen a story of the beginning of kokeshi over 150 years ago from this example?
In the rural areas in Japan, a girl asked a woodworker maybe her father or grandfather to make a doll. We think the woodworker hadn’t made the cute doll. He tried to make a doll for his girl although he didn’t have painting skill. That is what we call kokeshi now.
We feel the warmth from this rabbit kokeshi doll, same as the girl who had gotten a wooden doll.

“He was born in Togatta (miyagi prefecture) on January 22, 1936. In 1952, he started making wood turned products, continuing for about five years. At age 20, he began working as a craftsman in Sendai. (the central city of Miyagi) In 1965, Mr. Ogasawara apprenticed with kokeshi artisan, Eiji Asakura, and learned how to paint kokeshi, eventually making his own dolls and becoming the award winning artisan that he is today”. -from his Ogasawara kokeshi shop’s flyer.-

ほのぼのとした愛らしさを感じるうさぎです。
こけしは天然の木を使用しているため、木肌の色味が強く出ている箇所があります。自然素材ならではの風合いとしてお楽しみください。

※こけし本体は木でできています。急な乾燥や直射日光、暖房器具の近くを避けてお楽しみください。また、あまり湿気の多い場所ですとカビが生えることがありますのでご注意ください。
